Branding can cost ₹5,000 or ₹5,00,000 depending on who you ask — and most small businesses genuinely don't know where their money would actually do the most work. Here's an honest breakdown.
Worth Paying For
- A real logo, designed for your business specifically. Not a marketplace template with your name typed in — those are usually reused across dozens of unrelated businesses.
- A basic brand system — 2–3 colors, 1–2 fonts, defined clearly enough that anyone (you, a friend, a print shop) can use them consistently. This is what actually makes a brand look "put together," more than the logo itself.
- Your most customer-facing material — whatever a customer sees first: your storefront sign, your website, your primary social profile. Put budget here before anywhere else.
Worth Saving On (Early On)
- A 40-page brand guideline document. Useful for a large team; overkill for a solo business owner who just needs the essentials in one page.
- Custom packaging, before you have volume. Get the identity right first — packaging can catch up once you're ordering in quantities that make custom runs worthwhile.
- Multiple logo variations you don't need yet — icon-only, horizontal, stacked, monochrome. Useful eventually, not urgent for a business just starting to build recognition.
The Real Budget Trap
The costliest mistake isn't spending too little — it's spending on the wrong thing first. A gorgeous, expensive brand identity with no consistent application anywhere a customer actually sees it is money that did nothing. Sequence matters more than total spend.
Good design should be affordable — not by cutting quality, but by being honest about what you actually need right now versus later.
